This week I reviewed the class sales genie assignment. The assignment was to search salesgenie and download not more than 100 leads of companies that might be of interest for a career search.
Although some had trouble with the search interface to begin with, students were favorably impressed with the amount of information that could be downloaded in a short period of time. Almost everyone said the biggest challenge was figuring out what they wanted to do, what kind of company they wanted to target, not the tool itself.
We have been talking about strategy in class regarding marketing technology and I would ask you to think about yourselves in this context as you enter the job market. That is to say, what makes you unique and what can you offer?
There will be some more sales genie sign up times as we work on the project. Let me know if you want to do some more searches. You have a unique opportunity to use your salesforce.com login to manage your job search this semester. We loaded the salesgenie leads into salesforce and you can add others manually or through the uploading process.

We enjoyed looking at what companies are out there for possible opportunities for us. A lot of companies we weren't even aware of and salesgenie gave us a better outlook. We all come from different backgrounds and used our different interests to perform our job searches. Navigating through the website was difficult at first, but we figured it out after trial and error. This assignment helped us to get a good start at pursuing our future careers.
We agree with TeamAMAers, this assignment helped us prepare for our job searches. Through the leads we acquired, salesforce will help us keep track of our communications as we begin to narrow our job searches. This tool is very helpful for us and we are glad to gain access to it during the semester.
In addition to the previous entries, simply using these websites make us unique. Not every student has an opportunity to actually sit down and search for companies that they didn't know existed in their desired field. We have a competitive advantage over other candidates when it comes time for interviewing. These are common websites and to have experience using them is beneficial.
I think that this assignment was helpful in a couple of ways. First it got us aquainted with software as a service technology that is growing rapidly. It is also important to know how to transfer data between two different applications. Salesgenie and salesforce are beneficial because they can help us find companies that we are interested in, and help keep these contacts organized.
We feel that learning how to use the technologies of Salesforce and Salesgenie will be an asset for us in our career searches. Not only can we generate leads for job searching, but also keep track of those contacts for future use. These are tools we can confidently reference knowledge of when pursuing a career. What a great marketing tool for the university to offer its students.
Once we figured out how to navigate through the site, we thought the assignment was extremely beneficial. Not only did it make us realize all the options that are out there for future careers, but it allowed us to narrow down the types of companies we are each interested in.
