We are moving into a phase of the course where we will be preparing our project plan for the Restuarant.com project and some students may choose to run a google adwords campaign. So we delved into adwords as a program in a bit more detail this week, I thought the most interesting aspect of the adwords videos we looked at was the notion of having ads that are specific and include what we would call in 'direct marketing' a 'call to action.' For example, for a Valentine's Day ad include specific information on the ad, like free shipping on roses if you click now, rather than just posting an ad for a florist shop.
Keywords selected that are tightly tied to the ad are also likely to improve quality score. It always amazes me how many advertisers still don't adhere to these good principles, particularly using a destination URL or landing page to track their campaign. We believe that the google adwords videos really helped us to understand how to use this technique for our assignments and into the real world.
the videos were very descriptive and made it easier to understand.
The videos were very helpful in learning, however they left out one brand new feature of adwords just released in the past few weeks. This new feature which I read about and heard about. This new feature extends the title line of the adwords ad to double the length when the ad is in the top three positions. It takes the second line of the ad and adds it to the title line. This only happens when the second line ends in a period, exclamation mark, or question mark. Google has said that this is only a test of the feature, but they also say they have seen improved click-through rates.
Practicing Google Adwords in class was a great way to familiarize ourselves with how the campaigns work and how to effectively utilize the ad displayed.
Some of us have never used Google Adwords before or fully grasped how much it would cost a business to run an ad through Google. After completing tech. assignment #3, many of us felt more comfortable creating tag lines to draw attention to our target market for restaurant.com. As a result, this truly helped us get our feet wet for what's to come with our restaurant.com project in the future.
